E57 Serious Hard — consider a tech

GE Washer E57 — High Current on Inverter

GE Washer · Error code E57

What E57 Means

The motor inverter detected excessive current draw. Either the motor is mechanically bound, a winding is shorted, or the inverter itself is failing.

Symptoms

  • Trips during spin ramp-up
  • E57 displayed
  • Tub hard to turn by hand
  • Breaker may trip

Common Causes

1
Seized or worn tub bearing

Drum bearing locked or extremely rough, overloading the motor.

2
Foreign object jammed between tub and basket

Coin, bra wire, or sock wedged in stops rotation.

3
Shorted drive motor

Internal short pulls excess current.

4
Failed inverter board

MCU misreads current.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the washer.
  2. Spin the empty tub by hand — should rotate freely with mild resistance.
  3. If rough/grinding, the bearing is failed (often economic write-off on cheaper units).
  4. Shine a light between basket and tub; remove any foreign object.
  5. Measure motor windings — replace motor if shorted.
  6. If mechanics and motor are good, replace the inverter board.
