LID — Lid Lock / Lid Switch Fault (Top Load)

Top-load washer doesn't see the lid as closed and locked. Spin won't start. Common on GE HE top-loaders with electronic lid locks.

How to fix it

  1. Press firmly on the lid and start a cycle — confirm it isn't a closure issue.
  2. Inspect the lid strike (plastic post) — replace if broken.
  3. Unplug, remove the top panel, and reseat the lid lock harness.
  4. Test the lid lock with a multimeter for continuity in the locked state.
  5. Replace the lid lock assembly if it fails to lock or report locked.
