Sud / SUDS Minor Easy DIY

GE Washer Sud / SUDS — Excess Suds Detected

GE Washer · Error code Sud / SUDS

What Sud / SUDS Means

Control detected excessive foam during the wash or spin. Washer adds extra rinses or pauses to break down suds. Almost always caused by using non-HE detergent or too much detergent.

Symptoms

  • Sud or SUDS on display
  • Cycle takes much longer than normal
  • Visible foam through the door glass
  • Spin speeds reduced

Common Causes

1
Non-HE detergent used

Regular detergent foams excessively in HE machines.

2
Too much detergent

Even HE detergent will over-suds if overdosed — use 1–2 tablespoons for most loads.

3
Soft water amplifying suds

Soft-water households need even less detergent.

4
Pressure hose / sensor reading wrong

Rare — sensor misreads foam as overfill.

How to Fix It

  1. Let the cycle finish — Sud routine clears itself most of the time.
  2. Switch to HE-labeled detergent only (look for the HE symbol).
  3. Reduce detergent dose to 1–2 tablespoons per load.
  4. Run a Clean Washer / Tub Clean cycle empty to flush residual soap.
  5. If Sud appears with proper detergent and small loads, inspect the pressure hose for blockage.
