E1 — Thermistor Open Circuit (Generic)

On older Maytag dryers without the F-code dictionary, E1 indicates an open thermistor (exhaust or inlet, depending on model). No heat will be allowed.

How to fix it

  1. Unplug the dryer and locate the thermistor on the blower housing.
  2. Measure resistance — should be about 10 kΩ at room temperature.
  3. Replace the thermistor if open or far off spec.
  4. Inspect the harness end-to-end for breaks; repair as needed.
  5. Reassemble and run a heated cycle.
