Maytag Dryer F23 — Exhaust Thermistor Open Circuit

Maytag Dryer · Error code F23

What F23 Means

The control detects an open circuit on the exhaust thermistor sensor line. The dryer will not heat.

Symptoms

  • F23 on display
  • No heat during cycle
  • Dryer stops shortly after starting
  • Clothes still damp

Common Causes

1
Open thermistor

Internal break in the thermistor element.

2
Disconnected sensor harness

Connector at thermistor or ACU has pulled off.

3
Cut or pinched wire

Wire damaged during prior service or by sharp metal edge.

4
Failed ACU input circuit

Rare — board failure on the thermistor input.

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the dryer.
  2. Locate the exhaust thermistor on the blower housing and check the connector is fully seated.
  3. Measure thermistor resistance — should be roughly 10 kΩ at room temperature; an infinite reading means open.
  4. Replace thermistor if open.
  5. If thermistor is good, check continuity of the harness from thermistor to ACU connector.
  6. Reassemble, restore power, run a heated cycle to verify.
