Maytag Dryer F30 — Restricted Airflow / Clogged Vent

Maytag Dryer · Error code F30

What F30 Means

The control has detected that air is not moving through the dryer properly. Often triggered by a clogged lint screen, blocked vent, or weak blower.

Symptoms

  • F30 on display
  • Long dry times before code appears
  • Dryer very hot to touch
  • Cycle ends with wet clothes

Common Causes

1
Clogged lint screen or screen housing

Most common — fabric softener film or packed lint.

2
Blocked external vent duct or hood

Lint buildup in the duct between dryer and exterior wall.

3
Crushed or kinked transition hose

Especially in tight installations.

4
Bird/pest nest in exterior vent

Common cause of sudden onset.

5
Failed blower wheel or weak motor

Less common — wheel cracked on motor shaft.

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the lint screen and wash it with warm soapy water to remove softener film, then dry fully.
  2. Disconnect the transition duct from the back of the dryer and vacuum out the dryer outlet.
  3. Run the dryer briefly on Air Fluff and feel for strong airflow at the exterior hood — weak flow means the duct or hood is restricted.
  4. Clean the full duct run with a dryer vent brush; remove and clean the exterior hood.
  5. Replace any crushed flex transition hose with smooth metal duct.
  6. If airflow is correct externally but the code persists, inspect the blower wheel inside the dryer for damage.
