What L2 Means

An electric Maytag dryer sees one leg of the 240V supply missing or low. The motor may run but no heat is produced (heater needs both legs).

How to Fix It

  1. Turn the dryer breaker fully OFF, then fully ON (most double-pole breakers need this to reset both legs).
  2. If the code returns, unplug the dryer and inspect the terminal block screws for tightness and burn marks.
  3. Inspect the power cord for melted insulation or loose lugs; replace if damaged.
  4. With a meter, measure 240V across the two hot legs at the outlet — if you only read 120V, the issue is upstream in the outlet or panel.
  5. Call an electrician for outlet or panel-side faults.
  6. After repair, run a heated cycle to confirm.
