Maytag Dryer L2 — Low or Missing Line Voltage (Electric Dryers)

Maytag Dryer · Error code L2

What L2 Means

An electric Maytag dryer sees one leg of the 240V supply missing or low. The motor may run but no heat is produced (heater needs both legs).

Symptoms

  • L2 on display
  • Drum turns but no heat
  • Clothes don't dry
  • Code appears soon after start

Common Causes

1
Tripped half of the double-pole breaker

One side popped, one side still on — common.

2
Loose or burned terminal at the dryer block

Power cord screw backed out or arced.

3
Damaged power cord

Wire broken inside the cord.

4
Failed outlet/receptacle

One contact burned open.

5
Service panel issue

Loose neutral or breaker contact in the panel.

How to Fix It

  1. Turn the dryer breaker fully OFF, then fully ON (most double-pole breakers need this to reset both legs).
  2. If the code returns, unplug the dryer and inspect the terminal block screws for tightness and burn marks.
  3. Inspect the power cord for melted insulation or loose lugs; replace if damaged.
  4. With a meter, measure 240V across the two hot legs at the outlet — if you only read 120V, the issue is upstream in the outlet or panel.
  5. Call an electrician for outlet or panel-side faults.
  6. After repair, run a heated cycle to confirm.
